How To Build Self Confidence Skills

By sandz1214

Self Confidence is the difference between feeling empowered and feeling scared out of your wits. Your view of yourself has an enormous impact on how others see you. The more self confident you feel, the more fun and enjoyment you will have as well as great successes!

Many of the elements affecting your self confidence may be beyond your control, however, there are a number of things you can decide to undertake yourself to build self confidence. By using these elements you can get the edge you need to reach your potential.

Build Your Own Self Confidence 1. Have a Good Stance Similarly, the way a person carries himself or herself tells a story. People with slumped shoulders and slow movements display a lack of self confidence. They appear to be without enthusiasm about what they're doing and they don't consider themselves important. By practicing good posture, you'll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and look people in the eye. You'll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered.

2. Smile and Speak up During group discussions many people never speak up because they're afraid that people will judge them for saying something stupid. People are much more tolerant than we imagine. Most people are dealing with the exact same fears as we do. By making an effort to speak up a couple of times in every discussion, you'll become a better public speaker, you'll feel more self confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a potential leader by your colleagues.

Dress Smartly There is a saying that "Clothes Maketh The Man (Woman)"!! They certainly influence the way he or she feels about themselves. No one is more conscious of physical appearance than you are yourself. Use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. In most cases, significant improvements can be made by choosing to wear smart clothes, and focusing on appearance!

This doesn't mean you need to spend a lot on clothes. One great rule to follow is spend more and yet buy less, Choose fewer quality clothes and feel really good wearing them. Less good clothes last less time and perhaps go out of fashion more quickly.

Sit in the front row

Most people choose to sit at the back of the room in meetings and gatherings. They prefer to be inconspicuous at the back of the room. You can build your self confidence by choosing to sit closer to the front of the room. You'll also be in the range of the more influential people who can help you.

Keep Fit Along the same lines as personal appearance, keeping fit has a huge effect on self confidence. If you are overweight, you'll feel less secure, less attractive, and less energetic. By working out, you improve your appearance, energize yourself, and accomplish great results. It creates positive results for you to feel "tip top" for the rest of the day.

Develop a Faster Walk One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about herself is to examine her walk. Is it slow? Are you tired? Is it painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence often walk more quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. You can increase your self confidence by putting some energy in your walk. Walking 25% faster will make you look and feel even more confident.

Develop Your Own Advertising Commercial

One of the best ways to build confidence is to listen to a motivational person. If this isn't possible you can fill this need by making your own personal commercial. Write a 2 minute talk that outlines your strengths. Read it out loud (or inside your head if you prefer) whenever you need a confidence boost.

5. Appreciate Yourself When you focus too much on what you want, the mind creates reasons why you can't have it. So focus on appreciating your good "side". Set aside time each day to mentally list everything you have to be grateful for. Recall your past successes, your own skills, your relationships, and highlight those positive achievements.

6. Compliment other people. When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others. Look for opportunities to compliment or praise people about something important to them.

By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.

7. Focus on What You Can Do For Others. Too often we get caught up in our own needs. We focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. If you stop thinking about yourself and concentrate on what you can do for others, you won't worry as much about you own foibles.

Spititual Transformation

Evolutionary Spirituality and Evolving Beyond the Ego – Four Steps to Spiritual Evolution by Christine Hoeflich

I listened to an online discussion on evolutionary spirituality, evolving beyond the ego and spiritual evolution led by Craig Hamilton last month (April 2010). In a nutshell, Hamilton's message was that the ego (which he defined as the part of the self susceptible to collective conditioning) would rather stay comfortable than to take a chance on living a transformed life. The key to this problem, Hamilton said, was to evolve beyond the ego. This article is the third in a series of three and evaluates the four steps Hamilton formulated for evolving beyond the ego.

Before I go into Hamilton's four steps, I suggest we get accurate and call the process "reconnecting and integrating with your higher self" instead of "evolving beyond the ego." Naming the process accurately will help us access this realm much more easily, quickly and powerfully.

Step 1. You need to clearly see the distinction between the ego and the evolutionary self, with how it feels, how it expresses itself, and what its perspective is, said Hamilton.

I completely agree. You do need to be able to distinguish your higher self's expression and guidance from your mental conditionings and society's expectations. However, before you can even begin to do this, it would be helpful to become familiar with your "sacred space," to reconnect to it, to use a meditation that helps you focus on that sacred area and begins to awaken it (because although it's innate, it has been dormant for a long, long time).

Step 2. Face the reality that you have a choice, that you are not limited to the security and the familiarity of the ego, said Hamilton.

I agree, particularly since by awakening your higher self, you will begin receiving wisdom and guidance that in many cases will go against the collective conditioning. You will then (naturally) be faced with a choice. Will you be true to your higher self, or will you succumb to society's conditionings?

Step 3. You need to awaken to a larger spiritual context to your life, to discover a larger reason to do this rather than your own spiritual growth, said Hamilton.

This is not technically a step that's required for you to do, but, more accurately, a part of the process that will naturally unfold when you reconnect and integrate with your higher self. Furthermore, I am convinced that you do not have to see the bigger picture before you're motivated to reconnect.

When I went through my integrating process, I did not see the bigger picture until much later (and really, you don't want to jump to conclusions when it comes to defining the larger spiritual context, the Divine Plan).

What motivated me was being in a crisis for which I wanted real answers and higher guidance and I wanted the higher guidance because deep down I knew the collective conditioning was clueless. Getting myself out of deep trouble was motivation enough, and receiving input that I would help my family as well as many, many others by sharing what I was discovering took me the rest of the way.

Another example: How many people practice environmental restraint because they operate from the larger spiritual context of honoring and protecting the earth? People stop buying SUVs because gas prices are through the roof, not because the Earth's health and sustainability are threatened. In other words, people make changes when they are affected personally, not because of some larger spiritual context (and even then it's not automatic).

Step 4. You can't do this alone, you need others who are doing this same level of work and you need to do it together, said Hamilton.

I respectfully disagree with this step. You do not need to do this in conjunction with another and you certainly aren't required to join a group or attend a class of any sort. The process of reconnecting and integrating with your higher self is between you and your higher self. (And because your higher self is your bridge to the Divine Plan, you will receive feedback from the universe as to how you're doing.)

You do not need confirmation from others. In fact, if you're going to be a true pioneer in your field you may not get positive confirmation from others, at first--as was my experience. This is where confirmation from the universe (in the form of magical, awe-inspiring, spine-tingling, and/or wonder-arousing favorable synchronicities and meaningful insights) will do wonders to keep you on your path.

In conclusion, the steps given by Hamilton require a bit more evolving; he has not yet optimized them. Other steps are required for reconnecting and integrating with your higher self (the fast-track to spiritual evolution), but I have detailed them in a couple publications already and will not summarize them here. Besides, you need more than a summary to be effective. For connecting and integrating with your higher self (what some call "evolving beyond the ego," and others "awakening to the master within"), accurate details are extremely important. If they weren't, you'd see many more people doing it.

2012 - A Shift in Consciousness?

By Liz McCaughey

The year 2012 is a universal event and it has been credited with being the time of a great shift in consciousness for humanity. But are we really able to predict what will happen on 21st December 2012?

The Solstice on December 21, 2012 - precisely at 11:11 AM GMT - is purportedly the completion of the 5,125 year Great Cycle of the Ancient Mayan Long Count Calendar. Furthermore, it is thought to coincide with the end of a 26,000 year cycle and, perhaps, that of a greater (4 x 26000) 104,000 year cycle. These cycles relate both to movements of and within our Solar system as well as markers in the evolution of humanity. The end of one cycle is simply the beginning of another and unlikely to be the end of the world as we know it, despite the movie ʻ2012ʼ.

Let us assume that 2012 will bring a great shift in consciousness, a time when man will move from the 3rd dimension to the 4th & 5th dimensions. In terms we might understand better, a move away from the very physical and materialistic plane of existence (3rd dimension), that we are living today, to a more caring and compassionate lifestyle (4th dimension) with a deeper connection to the higher planes of existence (5th dimension), the realms of the masters and angels.

But are we able to predict what will happen on 21st December 2012? I donʼt think we can and I believe our uncertainty is because of humanityʼs unique quality of ʻfree-willʼ and ʻindividual consciousnessʼ. If 2012 is a ʻshift in humanityʼs consciousnessʼ then that ʻshiftʼ will depend on the consciousness of the whole of the human race at that time. Will we be separate, selfish, warlike individuals, thus possibly negating any event in 2012 or making the consciousness of the planet even more negative and fearful? Or, will we be caring people, living in a group energy and looking after each other, the animal kingdom and the planet? I believe that the consciousness of humanity will determine the events. So, what will actually happen? I doubt if anyone truly knows.

I am sure there are some people who believe they know what it all means but the reality is that no-one knows exactly what the future has in store - theirʼs or anyone elseʼs. A psychic may see, for an individual or a group, trends and certain pathways that may be followed under the influence of personal motivation, family tradition or environment. But, what will actually happen is subject to so many choices and possibilities along the way that an accurate prediction is not possible.

One of the reasons that an accurate prediction is so difficult is the above mentioned ʻfree-willʼ. To go a little deeper, within each person there are 2 levels of consciousness. First, an individual consciousness which is connected to the physical planes of existence; this is the part of us that can be separate and allows us the free-will to say ʻyesʼ or ʻnoʻ. Second, and balancing this aspect, we are part of a universal consciousness that is connected to ʻG_dʻ, the Creator, or whatever ʻnameʼ you may choose for Divine consciousness. This is the ʻun-manifestedʼ part of the Divine and It cannot operate directly on the physical plane of existence, hence the reason it needs us to bring heaven to earth. We are the conduit that the higher self uses to express Itself, through love and compassion, on this physical plane.

In day-to day living, the individual consciousness may ensure that we make decisions that are appropriate for the Physical Plane of Existence. However, if we live solely within that physical plane, and with no connection to the universal consciousness, we will be lacking in love and compassion because our connection to the higher planes is naturally veiled by the physical and our own individual consciousness.

For those on the spiritual path, this is a very hard thing to witness, whether with a family member, friend or stranger. A person living by individual consciousness, solely for their own gain, to the detriment of anyone else and with no balance of universal consciousness, will eventually become trapped in a prison of separate consciousness, alone and unhappy. This way of living is very ʻvictimʼ and ʻblameʼ orientated and the more a person lives like this the unhappier they generally become and, eventually, depression and other maladies may be the result.

What is so sad about this state of consciousness is that this way of living is something the individual has done to themselves. It is a path of their own making and they usually have no idea why they feel so unhappy and fearful. This state of consciousness can continue for years and even life-times but, eventually, because of the divine spark within every one of us, the human wakes up one day and states something like: "There has got to be more to life than this" - and then the search begins and a transformation of consciousness takes place. If they are really lucky, they find a place like the Kumara Centre and the transformation period is much reduced.

To go even further, this individual way of living is the ʻme, me, meʼ scenario where there is no giving or sharing - just selfishness. Living this way, the person disconnects from the universal consciousness, which focuses on the group energy of sharing with peace and love. The universal consciousness is not an individual entity and Its connection or influence becomes very weak with any human who lives a totally selfish and physical life.

As the shift of consciousness will be entirely dependent on the individual consciousness of the worldʼs population of 6.8 billion people and how balanced this individual aspect is with the universal consciousness, I really am not sure what is going to happen. I have great hope for the future but I am realistic in the outlook. I feel we have to join together and work as a group energy to succeed in achieving the best result for humanity during this period. At this time, when the planet has descended into a consciousness of fear and separateness, through terrorism and fanatical religious belief, it is hard to image that we can bring opposing factions together so we can all start working together through each issue. I am not suggesting that we all go to the United Nations and put forward our views, for I donʼt think that they are ready to listen just yet.

Nevertheless, if we could make a start with ourselves and look at our individual consciousness and be truthful regarding our thoughts of separation, we can start to shift the energy by shifting ourselves. If each of us, at the centre, can be brave enough to look within and then work together through group meditation, wisdom and spiritual practice, perhaps the little snowflake that is each person, may join with the next snowflake until eventually we become the avalanche that tips the scale of human compassion. I just hope that there will be enough human 'snowflakes' making and maintaining a connection to the universal consciousness of compassion and love so that the shift in 2012 is a positive event for the people of this planet and not a negative experience.

However, it is up to each individual to choose to do the work required and it will take some effort and discipline - this shift in consciousness requires us to do some work and self-transformation. It is up to us to maintain our meditation practice, even when we are busy. And, to stay away from the ʻgossipingʼ and ʻnegativityʼ that are so prevalent within the individual consciousness. We can do this by being part of a group energy and working within that group to deepen the connection to the universal consciousness and the Beings of Light that are trying to help us to grow spiritually and make the year 2012 a great time for us all. We may not know exactly what is going to happen, but we can influence the result. Providing a space for these group meditations was one of the reasons the Kumara Centre was founded. We invite you to join one of our many group meditations and help us to make a difference.

Stop the "Killer Stress" Before it StopsYou!

By Rey Misoler

"Happiness is not being pained in body or troubled in mind." - Jefferson

We all know that one of the causes of heart attack is the clogging up of blood vessels and arteries by a substance in the blood called cholesterol. As science matures, medical discoveries confirmed that there's also "good cholesterol" which actually helps the body fight the effects of the bad one. Another study similarly declares that it takes a lifetime for a blood vessel to become completely clogged, and tends to challenge the above statements.

These contradictory pronouncements are quite confusing, and sometimes amusing. However, there's one finding scientists and scholars agree as one: Stress Kills! Conclusions weigh heavily on work-related stress as the biggest contributor to heart attacks, oftentimes resulting to death. Job stress has an obvious harmful implication on health, particularly the cardiovascular system, as validated by studies that job strain increases the chance of a first coronary heart disease.

Job strain, as specifically defined by researchers, involves high psychological demands with low decision control. It manifests as a feeling of heaviness and pressure on one's physical and mental capacities, being overwhelmed and filled with anxiety. Stress, as it is commonly known, puts undue pressure on the individual and greatly hampers good performance.

By nature, different individuals react differently to stress. Some people are like horses and seem to cope with stress more readily, while others are like butterflies and easily break down even with the slightest pressure. They also have different ways of dealing with stressful situations, using methods that fit their respective personalities.

In managing stress, there are various techniques available for different types of people to utilize and practice. The most effective manner, however, is to stay relaxed and centered. Relaxation is a crucial component in any stress management program. It induces peace and tranquility, replacing fear and anxiety. It is just like lighting a candle to drive away darkness.

There are several stress management techniques that can be applied by people who have high-pressure lives. Unlike adrenalin, however, they are not expected to provide sudden bursts of energy. Instead, they intend to enhance a person's performance at work and other daily routine in a constant manner.

Knowing the harmful effect of stress on health and personal life, it is advised to "nip it in the bud" and not allow it to go unattended. Physical activities such as sports, dancing, running and swimming are good ways of releasing stress from the body. Others prefer doing meditation, yoga, massage therapy and listening to nature sounds to help in relieving stress.

Very recently, there's a highly effective way of managing stress which can be done with the least amount of time and effort, known as subliminal messaging. As a busy person, I would prefer this method because it can be done while doing routine activities, during break periods, and even while resting.

This technique has been the subject of many debates and disputed by proponents of other methods. While we don't intend to argue, having experienced the beneficial effects of subliminal messaging is sufficient proof of its effectiveness. As the saying goes; "You cannot argue success." But then again, nobody can decide what you want but yourself. It is important that you choose a particular stress relief program depending on your lifestyle, and with diligent application, you can definitely beat the stress out of your life.
