We must change our way of thinking and our ways of doing things; if we want to avoid these two possible outcomes: Our planet Earth will not survive or the environment would be so degraded, that everyone's quality of life would be very poor.
The economies of scale, which are running the world today, are no longer working properly. The environment is rapidly degrading and the people of the world are becoming over specialized - so that when vast changes do take place, the people will not be able to adapt, as the dinosaurs were unable to adapt to the vast climate changes that took place thousands of years ago.

If you look at and analyze the food industry in North America, then you will realize what we are up against in other areas of our lives. The corporate farms do not rotate crops, thus soils are becoming depleted. Pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are being over used. Fertilization chemicals are also heavily used. After most foods are harvested they are super processed. Preservatives, colouring agents, thickeners, and a host of other chemicals such as: MSG, sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate, benzene, aluminum sulfate, and formaldehyde - to name a few of the cancer causing and poisonous substances found in our foods. Most fruits and vegetables are picked when they are still very "green" - not at all ripe - then they are transported for long distances and have been sitting for long periods of time in trucks and warehouses. And when we finally get them into our kitchens we tend to over cook the vegetables - so most of the nutrients are gone, but the harmful chemicals remain.
Foods are also wrapped in plastic and aluminum. Plastics leach dioxins into the food and aluminum IS connected to Alzheimer's disease. Children do not want to eat their vegetables because they taste bad. Store bought carrots are bitter and harsh tasting when compared to the sweet taste of fresh carrots right out of the garden.
If we were to use geodesic dome technologies to grow all of our food in each community, then we could avoid all of the above. Each community would have its own fresh supply of food. This would create local employment and the community members would spend a lot less on food and be much healthier. Community members could harvest their own fresh food as needed. Families and community members could work together and make harvesting a social affair. Gardening and growing things can have a healing benefit as well. Working together and helping one another will help to unify all community members.
